One final reel from today’s @PulseRacingMTB Women’s 4-hour #MountainBike Relay @ @HardwoodSkiBike . Today’s youngest racer giving it her all. She covered so much ground today, we had to slow things down. Nice job kiddo. #seewhatshecando #PulseRacing #HardwoodSkiandBike #cycling https://t.co/Hn3YfXUE5b

Most of you probably know that I was diagnosed with anorexia in high school. Though I wasn’t a cyclist yet, and it wasn’t sport related or induced, that experience has impacted how I approach my cycling career.
RED-S (relative energy deficiency in sport: a problem related to under-eating, under-resting, or perhaps overtraining) is a common problem in endurance sport, and it’s a tough issue to tackle. Having been there physically, I just want to say one thing on the matter:
You do not have to be unhealthily lean to be one of the best in the world. Your body will be its fastest, in the most sustainable way, when it has the energy it needs to function properly. I had my best ever results this year - cracking top 10 in the world and 6th at world champs - at a weight that allows me to have a regular cycle and stay in energy balance (sorry, TMI?). Sorry for the long-winded post, but I wish someone had told me this when I was starting in cycling. Just like happiness is fast, HEALTHY is fast. Listen to your body and give it what it needs 💪🦵. If anyone wants to chat about this topic, I’m more than happy to gab away 🙂
