Gravelocity & SWSCD present: "Give Gravel A Go"

A stellar Sunday morning of blue skies, light winds and perfect temperatures was Mother Nature's most excellent contribution to the start of our inaugural "Give Gravel a Go" intro to gravel cycling event for women.

4 Simple Hacks Guaranteed to Get You into Cycling

5 Key Milestones on the Road to Cycling Success

Created in partnership with Gravelocity Cycling Getaways Founder Rich Martyn, the event provided participants the chance to experience gravel cycling in a fun, supportive and adventurous way.  As Gravelocity's Chief Gravelleur, Rich brought his more than 15 years of cycling experience, sense of fun and his deep passion for helping others experience the sheer childlike joy that riding a bike can bring.

From beginning to end, Rich leveraged his extensive gravel cycling experience and shared lots of great easily actionable tips, tricks and insights.  As we stopped along the 48km route, Rich took the opportunity to talk to riders about multiple topics including weight distribution on your bike; how to brake on gravel; and the ins and outs of group riding and communication. Rich also made sure to check in with each rider and provided personalized tips along the way.

Amazing adventures to experience with Gravelocity Cycling Getaways:

Elora-Fergus Skills & Sights Couples Getaway - August 27-28, 2022

Huron County Scenic & Social Getaway - September 17 - 19, 2022

Elora-Fergus Sunset Cycling Getaway - September 23-25, 2022

The route itself started and finished at Caledon Hills Brewery Company located in the quaint village of Palgrave, Ontario and conveniently located just off the Caledon Trailway, a "rails to trails" multi-use gravel recreation trail that makes up one portion of the Greenbelt Cycling Route and one part of the more than 24,000km that make up the Trans Canada Trail

A well-deserved and well-timed mid-ride bakery break at Coywolf Coffee, an amazing cafe and bakery located just off the trail in the village of Inglewood, allowed everyone to get a little acquainted, compare notes and, of course, enjoy yummy treats and a cold drink.

The back half of the ride was all on gravel and just what we needed to practice the group riding tips and tricks Rich had shared to help make our cycling efforts seem more effortless and certainly far more efficient. Indeed, it was a great way for everyone to build confidence, competence and enjoy the company of each other.

At the end of our ride together, our collective efforts were well rewarded with a delicious lunch at the Caledon Hill Brewery Company. A perfectly executed plan that made for a perfect day to learn all about gravel cycling.
