Avocados & Tomatoes go really well together, especially in salads or guacamole. They also have health benefits. By adding fats from avocados to tomatoes, it maximizes the bioavailability of Lycopene.
Lycopene is the carotenoid mainly responsible for the cardiovascular benefits, sun protection and some cancer fighting benefits of tomatoes.
Do you like the combination?
I, personally, love them both. 😁

Nutrition Success Story: Julia!
Julia was the TOP FEMALE on our recent 6 Week Spring Clean Clean Up Nutrition Challenge!
During the Challenge Julia LOST:
* 12.4 lbs
* 1.7%. body fat
Why did you decide to join the Spring Into Summer Nutrition Challenge?
I joined to get myself back in track. Busy days meant not scheduling meals eating on the run. I felt I was out of control. I was looking for some helpful hints to make things a little easier.
What have you gained/ learned from taking the Challenge?
The biggest thing I learned is that it is not that hard. If I take the time to plan my week, it makes my life so much easier. I also really think about portions and I can do this if I am home our out for dinner.
What would you say to someone considering doing a Challenge or Nutrition Program at CFNAC?
I would highly recommend it. After the six weeks you will feel so much better about yourself. It will give you that boost to keep going. If I can do it anyone can do it !!!
You are important, make yourself a priority.
Did You Know?
Turmeric + Black Pepper should be taken together.
Black pepper contains piperine which enhances curcumin absorption in the body by up to 2,000%
Curcumin is the main ingredient in turmeric.
Combining the spices, magnifies their effects.
This is why the best supplements contain both because without black pepper, tuneric, and curcumin, more specifically, does not absorb well.
Be careful with supplements, however, because a Stanford led study revealed that tumeric is sometimes adulterated with heavy metals, like lead-laced chemicals.
Lead is a potent neurotoxin considered unsafe in ANY quantity!
Were you aware of this synergy?
Do you use tumeric often in cooking or take supplements?

Did You Know?
By adding lemon to green tea, it allows the body to absorb the antioxidants from the green tea, more effectively. They are known as catechins and they are responsible for most of the health benefits associated with green tea.
Green tea has many health benefits. I drink it daily, and I learned this trick a couple of years ago.
Did you know this?
There are many more food synergies, that I'll post about in the next few days. You may already know a few.
Let me know your health hacks or food synergies you know.

Are You Aware Of The Sneaky Sugars?
You may think youre eating clean...but maybe you're not!
Take a look at the products and if you're eating or drinking those, either curtail or eliminate altogether. Tough love 😊
For me, I ALWAYS read the labels of any non whole foods. You can always add sweetener (natural) but can't reduce what's already there!
As I've said before, try to buy as much as possible from the perimeter of the store.

Foods That Are 💩
The manufacturers of these food products above, would have you believe they are "healthy".
Don't be fooled. For example, cheerios are NOT heart healthy, in fact they are detrimental to your health. By ingesting, you're doing more harm than good because of the added sugar and refined grains. They will raise your blood glucose level that could, over time, move you closer to insulin resistance and possibly diabetes.
I'm definitely not perfect, but the more educated I have become about insulin resistance, the more I try to steer clear of these type of products.
In general, the less processed the food we eat, the better. Stick to the perimeter of the grocery stores.
Try to eliminate one processed food item at a time.
Were you aware of above?
Will you be changing your habits, as a result?
