The women of Ontario are preparing for the 2020 season. MIFA is beyond proud to see the growth of the program and excited to fill the final pieces of the team roster. We appreciate all the members of our communities that have been in support. Feel free to share and support the movement and vision we began 5 years ago for tackle football in our province. Today is Rowan’s Law Day. Rowan’s Law was named for Rowan Stringer, a high school rugby player from Ottawa, who died in the spring of 2013 from a condition known as second impact syndrome (swelling of the brain caused by a subsequent injury that occurred before a previous injury healed). Rowan is believed to have experienced three concussions over six days while playing rugby. She had a concussion but didn’t know her brain needed time to heal. Neither did her parents, teachers or coaches. Rowan’s Law and Rowan’s Law Day were established to honour her memory and bring awareness to concussions and concussion safety. Know the signs and symptoms of concussion. https://www.ringette.ca/concussion/ #HitStopSit #RowansLawDay
Canada is making history by sending both their men (Wolverines) and women's (Ravens) rugby teams to Serbia for a games series in September. MacKenzie Victoria Fane needs your help to get there. "Being a female athlete in general, and also in a sport that is relatively new to our country, it is a constant struggle to be able to afford to play my sport at the highest level I can. Working full time while saving for school, training/playing rugby 6 days a week and volunteering my time with Ontario Rugby League as the Board vice-president can be a lot to handle. Any donations to my journey would be greatly appreciated." Check out her gofundme page. #seewhatshecando #rugby
