Week 28: Abby D. (abbydixon7) was a varsity basketball player for queensgaelswbb! She is now a licensed chiropractor and getting more involved with coaching. An important topic for is advocating for athletes to participate in multiple sports to help with injury prevention and build new skills! In place of our regular Sunday ball program this week, we have an exciting new event coming up! As part of the #ReachingHigher campaign, Sarah Saleem (@sawrahs ) is climbing Mount Kilimanjaro and raising funds to provide Syrian refugee children in Turkish camps with quality education. 🏔👦🏻🧒🏼💻📚 Here is how you can help: Join us this Sunday Feb 2 from 1-4 pm at the Sayeda Khadija Centre to participate in a Women’s basketball clinic and tournament with Hijabi Ballers Coaches Hinnah and Fifi. 🏀Coach Hinnah is a former D1 College basketball player, and Fifi is a Hijabi Ballers Basketball Ambassador and the star of the @raptors Nike Hijab Campaign. ⛹🏽♀️ . Both ladies are exceptional basketball players and coaches and we can’t wait to have them lead this session for you all! Learn the ins and outs of basketball and take part in a hype tournament with your fellow Hijabi Ballers basketball enthusiasts. No experience necessary! This clinic is a charity event as part of the Reaching Higher campaign and has a suggested donation of $20-30, all of which will go towards Sarah’s mission (Learn more about it in our previous post!) Week 17: Sara B. (single__handed) is former member of the Canadian national women's wheelchair basketball team! She has traveled around the world and has visited many places. She is passionate about inclusivity and accessibility in all aspects of life, but especially in sport with children. She is currently a mentor for the Girls Enabled and Ready to Play (GEAR) Program to help women and girls learn and stay in wheelchair basketball.
