THE PWHPA RETURNS TO TORONTO FOR THE SECOND STOP OF THE 2021-22 SECRET® DREAM GAP TOUR

In partnership with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Kipling Group, the event will take place from December 18-19, 2021

The Professional Women’s Hockey Players Association (PWHPA) is making its way back to Toronto for the latest installment of the Secret® Dream Gap Tour. The Kipling Showcase will take place on December 18-19, 2021. PWHPA has partnered with the Toronto Maple Leafs to host the championship game at Scotiabank Arena with Kipling Group as the title sponsor. The Kipling Showcase will be the fifth time the PWHPA has partnered with an NHL team for the Secret® Dream Gap Tour.

The event will feature 2021 US Secret® Cup champions Team adidas (Minnesota), Canadian Secret® Cup champions Team Harvey’s (Montreal), as well as Team Scotiabank (Calgary) and hometown Team Sonnet (Toronto). The first two games of the showcase will take place on December 18th at Port Credit Memorial Arena —winners of the first games will compete in the championship match at Scotiabank Arena, home of the Toronto Maple Leafs, on December 19th. Remaining teams will compete in the consolation game at Leaside Memorial Arena located in Toronto at 11am on Sunday morning.

“We believe it’s time for Corporate Canada to step up to do more to support women in sport. Kipling Group is proud to play its part by sponsoring the Kipling Showcase and the amazing women hockey players of the PWHPA. It’s a matter of respect, dignity and creating a more equitable playing field,” said Richard Geurts, CEO of Kipling Group.

The PWHPA and the Toronto Maple Leafs first announced their partnership in February 2021, but the groups weren’t able to immediately plan a showcase due to COVID-19 restrictions in Ontario. The showcase will mark the first time PWHPA players have played in Toronto since the 2019-20 season.

“In announcing our partnership with the PWHPA in February of 2021, the Maple Leafs committed to supporting a future Secret® Dream Gap Tour game that showcases some of the outstanding talent in women’s hockey today,” said Toronto Maple Leafs President and Alternate Governor Brendan Shanahan. “We recognize the PWHPA players efforts and incredible sacrifice in their ongoing determination to operate a sustainable league that provides the professional infrastructure their players deserve.”

Saturday’s round robin will feature Team Adidas (Minnesota) vs Team Harvey’s (Montreal) at 1pm ET and Team Sonnet (Toronto) vs Team Scotiabank (Calgary) at 4pm ET. You can purchase single passes or day passes here. Tickets for the championship game can be purchased at Ticketmaster.ca.

“The PWHPA is thrilled to finally be playing in Toronto again, and at Scotiabank Arena,” said PWHPA Operations Consultant Jayna Hefford. “The Toronto Maple Leafs have been supportive partners and, from the time we announced this partnership, we’ve been working diligently behind the scenes to make a Secret Dream Gap Tour showcase happen in Toronto. The Leafs’ alignment with our mission – and our players –  is sure to make this a memorable event for both our players and fans.”

The Kipling Showcase will be the fifth time the PWHPA has partnered with an NHL team for the Secret® Dream Gap Tour.
