The CWHL's Markham Thunder: Celebrating the start of the 2019 season and their 2018 Clarkson Cup success

The Canadian Women's Hockey League's (CWHL) Markham Thunder had lots to celebrate at their season-opening Saturday night home game against the Worcester Blades, a team that had, up until last year, played out of Boston.  Markham's Thunder Nation fan zone was buzzing with excitment for the start the 2019 season and hoping their team would continue in the same winning way they finished the 2018 season.  The Thunder did not disappoint.  They came out firing on all cylinders and decisively earned their first win against the Blades by a score of 6-0.

Raising the 2018 Clarkson Cup Championship Banner

Prior to the start of the game, the Markham Thunder team held a special banner-raising ceremony to celebrate their first Clarkson Cup win in their Markham-based Thornhill Community Centre arena.  Dignataries from the City of Markham, the CWHL, and the Markham Thunder as well players from the 2018 Markham Thunder Championship team and an almost full capacity of Thunder fans came together to watch their Championship banner take its rightful place over the arena's centre ice.
