The rivalry of the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL)'s  two Greater Toronto Area (GTA) teams - the Markham Thunder and the Toronto Furies - intensified with this past weekend's back-to-back series between the two teams. In the Saturday night game, the Markham Thunder promptly pulled the welcome mat out from under the skates of the Toronto Furies players and put five goals on the board over the game's three periods.  Thunder goaltender Liz Knox played her part well and only allowed the Toronto Furies to get two goals between the pipes and ensuring the Thunder take the game by a score of 5-2.  

In the series second game, the Thunder worked hard to come back twice from deficits but their extra efforts just weren't enough.  The Toronto Furies prevailed and claimed the victory 4-3 in overtime.  Sunday's game was held at Joshua's Creek Arenas in Oakville as part of the League's community outreach efforts.
