The Canadian Women's Hockey League's Markham Thunder opened their fourth home game of the 2018-2019 season in their Thornhill Community Centre home arena after playing the first of a two-game home series against the Shenzhen KRS Vanke Rays in Ancaster, Ontario as part of the team's outreach program and in their efforts to help the Ancaster Girls' Hockey Association's twentieth anniversary.  It was one of only a few weeknight games on this season's Thunder schedule.  KRS Vanke Rays took the win in Ancaster by a score of 3-2. 

Familiar surroundings payoff and Erica Howe reaches a milestone

Finding themselves back on their home turf for the Saturday night game, the Thunder were looking to pull out a win of their own to even up the series.  Strong goaltending efforts on the part of both Erica Howe for the Thunder and Noora Raty for the Rays kept the score low and lots of back-and-forth rushes kept the game moving at a fast clip.  In the end, the Thunder were able to get one past Noora Raty while on the powerplay in the third period and hung on to win the game 1-0.   With their win against the Rays, the Thunder evened their record to three wins and three losses while Erica Howe earned her 30th career win.
