Community Partners Make 'PAWS'itive Impact on Road Safety

On Saturday the 25th of June, officers from both the York Regional Police (YRP) and the Aurora Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment attended a Pet Safety Community Event hosted by Global Pet Foods Newmarket to raise greater awareness on the risk of driver distraction and the dangers of having an unsecured pet in a car while driving.

YRP and OPP officers took the opportunity to demonstrate how easy it is to secure your pet and reduce the risk of distracted driving and potential injury. Officers also provided OPP K9 cards to all the children who attended the event.

In addition to OPP and YRP officers in attendance, community partners including St. John Ambulance (talking about pet first aid), Neighbur Media, East Gwillimbury Veterinarian Dr. Angela Smith and the Pet Blood Bank were on hand to answer questions regarding pet first aid, pet health and safety, and other pet-specific issues.  A great display from Sigma Comics was also provided to introduce and inform event attendees about their character 'Calico', a superhero who protects animals.

A beautiful day outside was the icing on the cake to make this Pet Safety Event an excellent opportunity to engage with local pet owners and raise awareness.
