As is tradition on Easter Week-end over 300 of Southern Ontario's elite 5 pin bowlers come together to compete in the biggest event on the 5 pin 18 calendar - the Ontario Open Provincial 5 Pin 18 Championships. NEB's Fun World at 1300 Wilson Road North in Oshawa will be hosting this event this year. Gold medal winners of this event will represent Southern Ontario at the National Championships in Gatineau Quebec June 3 - 6 2020. The four day event showcases the best teams and singles competitors encompassing 13 Zones across Southern Ontario. Each of the 13 Zones fields a Men's Ladies' and Mixed Team along with a Certified Competitive Coach for each team. There will also be Singles Competition whereby the top 3 men and 3 ladies from the Men's and Ladies' Teams will also compete in a separate Singles Event. After the qualifying rounds each of the winning gold medal Provincial Men's Ladies' and Mixed Teams along with the Provincial Man and Lady Singles Champions will compete at the National Championships in Gatineau Quebec June 3 - 6. Opening ceremonies commence at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening with the Parade of Champions. The Singles competition gets underway after the opening ceremonies. After completion of the qualifying rounds for singles the top 5 men and top 5 ladies will advance to a stepladder competition on Friday April 10 at 6:30 p.m. For the Singles Stepladder it is not uncommon to witness 400 to 500 hundred spectators cheering on their favourite player. The team events commence on Thursday April 9 and will be completed Friday. The top 4 teams of each of the Men's Ladies' and Mixed Team Divisions will compete in a stepladder finish on Saturday April 11at 9:00 a.m. to declare the Gold Medal Provincial Champions and determine who will represent Southern Ontario at the Nationals in Quebec. A Victory Banquet will be held Saturday April 11 where all of the winners will be recognized and presented with their medals.
