Meet the first female coach in the NFL and women coaches who are changing the face of sports and inspiring the next generation.
Presented by She's For Sports and Ryerson University's Global Experiential Sport Lab (GXS Lab), the first event of the 2020 Be Bold Speaker Series. This Speaker Series initiative will give a voice to bold game changers who are making a difference in gender diversity in sports and creating spaces for women and girls to thrive across the industry.
Our first event is 'She Can Coach'. Although there has been some progress in the hiring of women in professional sports including Hayley Wickenheiser, Assistant Coach, Toronto Maple Leafs and Becky Hammon's rise within the San Antonio Spurs NBA franchise, women are still under-represented in coaching. According to the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity (CAAWS), women made up only 16% of head coaches and 18% of assistant coaches across 54 Canadian national teams (both men & women).
Panellists include:
-Dr. Jennifer Welter, First female coach in the NFL
- Kayla Alexander, WNBA player, Chicago Sky
-Shireen Ahmed, Athlete, Coach and Sports Activist
-Brittni Donaldson, Assistant Coach, Toronto Raptors
Come out and hear from our coaching panel of women to find out why this is still the case and what more can be done across the sports industry to remove barriers, so women can coach at all levels.
