SWSCD Photo Blog: 2018 Canadian Ultimate Championships Part 2 - Women's Masters Final

The Canadian Ultimate Championships (CUC) Series.

The premiere national ultimate tournament series that bring together players from coast to coast and everywhere in between to have the chance to earn the right to be called national ultimate champions.  Teams that play in the CUC have been successful at the regional level and earned their spot to compete at the national level.  The first CUC was held in Ottawa, Ontario in 1987.  From that point on, the growth in the sport of ultimate has seen the CUC go from a stand-alone competition to an event requiring three national Championships as well as multiple divisions and host cities.

The three major Canadian Ultimate Championships include:

  1. Canadian Ultimate Championships Single Gender (CUC)
  2. Canadian Ultimate Championships Mixed (CUC)
  3. Canadian Ultimate Championships Junior (CUC Junior)

The CUC Junior includes the divisions of junior open and junior women.  The CUC Single Gender includes the adult divisions of open, women, masters and women's masters.  The CUC Mixed includes only adult mixed teams.

For this year's 2018 CUC Series, the City of Brampton, Ontario played host to both the CUC Junior and Single Gender divisional national championships.  Surrey, British Columbia played host to the now stand-alone CUC Mixed national championship.

The 2018 CUC also marks the first year that Ultimate Canada has taken on the primary responsibility of tournament organizer.  In the words of Teri-Lynne Belanger, Tournament Director for the 2018 CUC, Utimate Canada was

"excited to have been able to bring in some of the amazing people who have put on CUC's in the past and assemble a dream team Organizing Committee to help us execute CUC in Brampton."
