Special Olympics - A movement focused on What You Can Do

Special Olympics is committed to enriching the lives of children and adults with an intellectual disability through sport and physical activity. This inspiring organization ensures athletes with all abilities are able to participate from a young age (from 2 years) to well into adulthood. Through local and provincial chapters, athletes are given the chance to participate in recreational programs as well as actively compete in multiple sports at the local, provincial, national and international levels.

Highlights from the Aurora Dazzlers end-of-season rythmic gymnastics performance

This past May, SeeWhatSheCanDo had the chance to head to Aurora, Ontario to take in the Dazzlers rhythmic gymnastics finale event for Special Olympics Aurora.  Prior to performing, all athletes were put through a thorough warm up. Their performance consisted of two routines in pairs, that were beautifully choreographed to music. Athletes grooved to routines combining ballet, gymnastics, and dance using a rope, followed by a ball. The goal for each pair was to work together to move the rope and ball in a coordinated rhythmic way to the music. Performances were simply awesome. We were very impressed with the athleticism of these gymnasts. Congratulations to all athletes and coaches who help make this program such a success.
