Team Despins Welcomes Skip Krista Scharf for 2026–27 Season

THUNDER BAY, ON — Team Despins is proud to announce that one of Northern Ontario's most accomplished curlers, Krista Scharf, will join the team for the upcoming 2026–27 season as skip.

Scharf brings more than two decades of elite competitive experience to the team and is one of Canada's most accomplished women's curlers. She has represented both Ontario and Northern Ontario at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts on 12 occasions, earning two silver medals and two bronze medals. Her resume also includes three appearances at the Canadian Olympic Curling Trials, multiple Grand Slam events, and a silver medal representing Canada at the Winter Universiade. Most recently, Scharf captured the 2026 Northern Ontario Women's Championship, once again earning the opportunity to represent the region on the national stage.

"Krista has been one of the most respected competitors in Canadian women's curling for many years," said Team Despins. "Her experience competing on the national stage, her leadership, and her ability to perform under pressure make her an incredible addition to our team. We are thrilled to welcome her and are excited for what we can accomplish together this season."

The addition comes following an injury to longtime Team Despins teammate Nicole Westlund-Stewart, who has been rehabilitating a back injury since January. While Nicole has made excellent progress in her recovery, she and the team determined that stepping into the role of fifth for the upcoming season is the best decision to support both her continued rehabilitation and the team's competitive goals.

"Nicole remains a huge part of the team,” the team said. "She has been an incredible teammate and competitor, and we're fortunate she'll continue to be with us throughout the season. Her experience and support will continue to be invaluable."

Team Despins enters the 2026–27 season with its sights firmly set on competing for the Northern Ontario championship and earning a berth at the 2027 Scotties Tournament of Hearts. The team is also looking forward to showcasing its new lineup throughout the season.
