Challenge yourself this summer with axe throwing, Latin dancing and boxing lessons.

A stroll through one of your local street fairs can uncover some amazing gems right in your own neighbourhood.  At the street fair in Aurora, Ontario this weekend, we were on the hunt for some new activities to try this summer. Check out our top three active vendors in the GTA for the week. Hope to see you in the ring, on the dance floor or, well behind you as you hone your axe throw.

Axe Throwing - Experience the thrill

Bullseye Axe Throwing calls themselves 'the real deal of axe throwing'. Why? They use real, fresh cut logs for their targets resulting in less dropped axes and a more competitive, more exhilarating experience. They are a destination for ladies nights out, corporate team building, birthdays and anything else worth celebrating. Bulls Eye has locations in Barrie and Newmarket. If you can’t make it to their location, they can come to you with their Axe Throwing mobile events for weddings, private parties, festivals, or any other type of event.

Here is what they have to say about the Bullseye axe throwing experience.

It’s hard to hold an axe without getting the urge to watch it spin through the air and sink its blade into wood. At Bullseye Axe Throwing, people can indulge that instinct. Here, at a safe target range, visitors get in touch with their primitive selves, taking axe in hand and propelling it towards real tree stumps. Our crew of coaches and axe-aficionados are so dedicated to the sport that we’ve even put together an axe throwing league. Our leagues are a community of friends and competitors that meet to throw axes on a weekly basis.

Latin Dance Night - Move to the Latin beat

Who doesn't yearn for the rhythm of Latin dancers? Popular television shows like "So You Think You Can Dance", "World of Dance" and "Dancing With the Stars" showcase the beauty and energy of Latin dancing. I often sit in awe of the quick feet, hip action and emotion of this genre of dance.

Studio 5 in Aurora, Ontario offers Friday Latin Dance Nights for all levels of dancers. Here's how they describe their experience:

Located in the heart of Aurora, Studio 5 has opened a brand new facility that features two state–of–the–art studios with modern design, and equipped with professional dance floors, wall mirrors, stage lighting, video and audio.

Join us on Friday for an evening full of passionate and energetic Latin Dance, complete with spins, sharp movement, and crisp turns. Our passionate and professional instructors teach dancing in a fun, easy and social way for all levels of dancers including beginners. No partner required and no experience necessary.

Boxing - What will you conquer?

Boxing for women has really started to take off.  From everyday athletes to box office celebrities, women are putting on their boxing gloves and fighting to get fit.

Conquer Boxing is Aurora's only exclusive boxing gym and is opening fall 2018 offering high-performance boxing programs for the whole family. While their new facilities are being outfitted, they will be offering classes starting June 12 at 73 Industrial Parkway North, Aurora. Mention Street Festival Special for $25 of one of their current classes/programs.  Here's what Conquer Boxing has to say about boxing and why you should give it a try:

Boxing as a sport requires a high level of athletic prowess: strength, speed, agility, hand-eye coordination, endurance, nerve, and power - just to name several required attributes. Boxing as a fitness activity enables the average person to hone those same athletic skills, all without having to take a punch.

Why boxing? Here are a number of other reasons why:
1. Enhanced cardiovascular health
2. Improved total body strength
3. Better hand-eye coordination
4. Decreased stress
5. Improved body composition
6. Improved confidence and self-esteem
