Team Play. Team Fun. Give curling a go at York Curling Club.

Playtime. Teamwork. Community.

The game of curling. A game of strategy, precision and community.  An on-ice game that has deep roots in countless communities across Canada and provides many with a chance to play a sport indoors during the cold and snowy winter months.  If you’re a resident of York Region who's ever thought to give curling a try or you're contemplating getting back into it, then the Town of Newmarket's and Sport Aurora Member York Curling Club (YCC) might just be the place you’re looking for.

Lots of play options are offered through YCC, a not-for-profit members Club located on Muriel Street. SeeWhatSheCanDo sat down with Sharen Cain, a current member of the Club’s governing Board of Directors and Co-Convenor of the Women’s Wednesday Night Recreational House League to hear all about them.

"Her message to us was clear; don’t be afraid to try and definitely give curling a go." Sharen Cain, YCC Curler & Board of Director member

For Sharen, curling at YCC has not only provided her with her very first team sport experience, it's also enabled her to play recreationally and competitively through the Club’s League offerings and throughout the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) in women’s, mixed and open curling bonspiel events over the last number of years.

Sharen's time at YCC has also helped her to build an extensive network of friends and acquaintances who live in her own neighbourhood in Aurora and other York Region communities.  Her message to us was clear; don’t be afraid to try and definitely give curling a go.  And there are lots of ways for everyone to play at YCC.

Curling For All Ages & Skill Levels

For brand new curlers, YCC offers ‘Learn to Curl’ events to get you started. For those interested in playing in a league, there are both recreational and competitive opportunities to play on women’s, mixed (2 women/2 men), open (no required male/female ratio) and men’s teams.  Both evening and day, weekday and weekend leagues are available.  Their programs cover lots of age groups including their Little Rocks Program (12 years and younger), their Junior Program (U15/U18/U21) and their Adult Programs (12+ years old and up).

YCC’s recreational leagues are individual entry and all entrants are assigned to a team by the Convenor.  Mid-season sign-ups are possible where space permits. Competitive and Open leagues are team entry and provide an excellent way to experience a higher level of play and potentially enable you to compete at the highest levels of the game within Ontario and across Canada.  An Open Development Flight as well as Doubles and Triples Leagues additionally provide unique ways to curl in alternative team formats.

If playing on a weekly basis isn’t necessarily something you want to do, YCC also offers ways to play more occasionally through their ‘Spare/Substitute' Membership and through their Member/Guest events.  As well, a paracurling event is offered annually as the Club’s ice surface and Lounge area are fully accessible.

No matter your motivation, the game of curling has something for everyone and YCC is ready to be there to meet all of your curling needs and wants. Cheers to good curling!
