2017 Ontario Provincial Pickleball Championships - SWSCD moments

Pickleball players across Ontario descended on the Pan Am Centre in Markham, September 15-17, 2017 to compete in the Pickleball Association of Ontario (PAO)'s Provincial Championships.  Pickleball requires quick reflexes, constant footwork, strategic play and placement of the ball. The play we witnessed across all player ages and abilities was fast and furious. We were impressed with the great teamwork and generous sportsmanship amongst all competitors on-court. 

Top athletes across Ontario competed at the Provincial Championships for the chance to be called provincial champions.  Both men and women competed in a variety of events including Mixed Doubles, Women's Doubles, Women's Singles, Men's Doubles and Men's Singles.  Competitive age categories included Open, 19+, 36+, 50+, 60+ and 70+ while skill level categories ranged from 3.0 - 4.5 with each 0.5 increment signifying a new more competitive level (i.e 3.0 vs 3.5).  This provincial-level tournament involved 35 different events, 35 draws, 290 entries and 318 players.  Interestingly, the event that had the most entries was Mixed Doubles Open with 24 entries whereas Mixed Doubles 4.0 70+ had the least with only 3 entries.  

With the support of the PAO, SeeWhatSheCanDo had the chance to photograph some great Women's Doubles 50+ and 60+ as well as Mixed Doubles Open action on the first and second days of the tournament.  Our Athlete Photo Gallery highlights a sampling of the play over all three days of the 2017 PAO Provincial Championships.
