Ringette teams move into finals at the 2019 Canada Winter Games

It was an exciting day of semifinal play at the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer, with Quebec and Ontario booking a spot at the gold medal game tomorrow after defeating Manitoba and British Columbia.

The first semifinal saw Quebec down previously undefeated Manitoba 7-5 in a fast-paced and well-executed battle. Gatineau’s Sara Plouffe scored two goals in the game, including the winner. “We came into the game very focused and mentally prepared and we were ready to beat them,” said Plouffe, who was also the flag bearer for Team Quebec at the opening of the games. “Tomorrow we will use the same strategy and we will win, I am sure we will win. We are prepared for this.”

Team Ontario continued their winning streak in the second semifinal game of the day, downing British Columbia 8-1. It was a team effort by Ontario, with singles coming from Timmins’ Sydney Dagenais, Morriston’s Claire Wyville, Ottawa’s Liza Roik, Mississauga’s Emily Power and Laura Soper, St. Jacob’s Maddie MacLean, Nepean’s Emma Kelly, and Arnprior’s Paige Miller. The lone goal for British Columbia came from Maple Ridge’s Sidney Crowe.
