The Festival celebrates the Hijabi Ballers project, its athletes and community members. It is meant to bring together all members of the community in support of Muslim women in sports. It will be an opportunity for girls and women to meet each other and make connections through sports, recreation and wellness while having the opportunity to be part of sport spaces in their communities. The event will feature a girls-only multi-sport tournament, drop-in fitness sessions and lots of other fun activities.
Through a variety of activities and games, the event is meant to allow youth, children and adults to explore and find what speaks to them in terms of leading healthier lives and being active members in their communities and the spaces it offers. It will also provide an opportunity for people and groups who do not self-identify as 'Muslim female athletes' to learn more about Muslims, about women and their involvement in athletics in their communities.
People of all ages, genders and faiths are welcome to attend the event. Participation in tournament exclusive to girls & women 13+.
COST
The Hijabi Ballers Sports Festival is a free event!
REGISTRATION/TEAMS
No registration is required to attend the event. However, to play in the all-female multi-sport tournament, you must register. Registration will open soon.
Only one member (Team Captain) will register your team. However, names of all participants must be provided.
Players can be added to or retracted from your team after you have already registered. You must email us and let us know of the changes.
You can sign up individually or in a team of less than 8 players. We will place you with others to form a complete team and introduce you to each other via email. Don't worry though- the team you signed up with won't be split up!
LOCATION
The festival is held outdoors on the Go Green field. The event is also held outdoors because we want to make public sport spaces feel accessible and friendly for Muslim women by creating designated spaces for Muslim female athletes to play and enjoy sports. We want you to use this opportunity to feel welcome in your local park space in your hijab, abaya, niqab. etc while celebrating your love for sports!
*No cleats are allowed on the Go Green Field. Please wear running shoes.
SAFETY MEASURES
A medic will be on site. For sports and activities requiring safety equipment, they will be provided for you.
TOURNAMENT
This is a multi sport tournament, including soccer, basketball and flag rugby. This means you will get a chance to play all 3 sports, with at least one game of each. Games are meant to range from beginner to intermediate. Many people will have never played before or will have had little exposure to a sport. This is your opportunity to play and learn! A local community organization will be facilitating each game and will give you a brief coaching session on how to play!
